Mara Lopez defends mom Ma. Isabel Lopez over ASEAN lane “brouhaha”

Former beauty queen and veteran actress Maria Isabel Lopez once again made a noise after her scene-stealing red-carpet pose and walk at the 69th Cannes Film Festival in France last 2016 which gained praise from the people. But this time, it is different, because of the  controversial video she posted on Facebook last Saturday, November 11.
In the said post, the veteran actress was boasting her traffic infraction, wherein, she removed the divider cones that separates the ASEAN lane from the lanes open to the public.
She also added that the motorists behind her followed suit as she sped along the ASEAN lane.

“I removed the divider cones! Then all other motorists behind me followed! MMDA thinks I’m an official ASEAN delegate! If you can’t beat them, join them!” she wrote.

Her post had the hashtags #nosticker, #leadership, #belikemaria, #pasaway, and #selfpreservation.

The purpose of the ASEAN Lanes installation, is to ensure the speedy trips, most specially the safety of the attending world leaders and delegates on the 31st ASEAN and Related Summits.

But the veteran actress was defended by Mara Lopez, actress and daughter of Isabel Lopez, shortly after her mischievous mother’s controversial Facebook post.

“I get a text this morning from Rico Robles ‘your mom is thug life!’ I had no idea what was going on. I’m in baler and my phone has been ringing all morning asking for a statement. I’m not really sure what people are expecting me to say. I mean, I wasn’t there. And anyone that knows my mom knows she will do her own thing no matter what. We may not always agree, but she’s my mom and I love her. I got your back mama,” wrote Mara.

After the said incident that gained flak from numerous netizens, Isabel sent her apology through a Facebook page post and asked the netizens who criticised her, to watch “24 Oras”, the GMA news program, to hear her side story and that was because she had to answer the “call of nature”, as Isabel explained.

But her public apology she broadcasted is not enough to escape the sanctions she has to face from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) as recommended by the Metro Manila Development Authority and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.

“It’s a serious breach of security. MMDA and LTFRB will now recommend to the LTO the suspension or cancellation of Ma. Isabel Lopez driver’s license,” said MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago in a statement.
