Duterte: “Why should I be kind to criminals?”

Tuesday, during the Anti-Corruption Summit 2017 lead by the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City, President Rodrigo Duterte said that he will just a lot the funds for the rehabilitation of drug dependents to projects that aim to generate more jobs.
“Bakit ako mag-rehabilitate ng criminals? Eh kasalanan mo. T****na wag mo ko b***s**t dyan(Why should I rehabilitate criminals? It’s their fault why they’re like that. Son of a b***h. Don’t give me that b***s**t.),” Duterte said.
“Ako, kapag criminal ka, criminal ka talaga (For me, if you are a criminal, you are really a criminal) … why should I be kind to criminals?” he added.

The controversial anti-drug campaign that Duterte started after winning the presidential race, is blamed to be the reason for extrajudicial killings, who were committed by police officers according to the Human Rights watchdogs, which was denied by the current administration.

The idea of rehabilitation for the criminals is dissented by Duterte, wherein for him, they are “monsters” who have “lost the essence or existence of a productive person.”

In response to this, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights said that “all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.”

Aside from that, it is also stated in the 1987 Constitution likewise that “no person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law, nor shall any person be denied the equal protection of the laws.”

To stop the growing problem on drugs, specially shabu, the European Union worked with the World Health Organization (WHO) to implement a “health-based solution” program, which was criticized by Duterte during his speech before Filipino-Chinese businessmen, and branded it as a “government-sponsored idiotic exercise.”

“The sons of bitches, they want us to build clinics, then we should, instead of arresting or putting them in prison like in other countries, you go there and if you want shabu they will inject you or give you shabu,” The President said.
