Hindi lang ine-enjoy ni Derek ang oras niya sa kanyang girlfriend na si Ellen kundi pati rin sa anak niyang si Elias.
Kasunod ng kumpirmasyon ng kanilang relasyon, mas maraming mga bago at sweet photos ang ibinabahagi ng dalawa sa kanilang mga social media accounts. Sa isang interview sa kanya ng MEGA Entertainment, tinanong siya kung may balak paba siyang magpakasal. Ito ang naging sagot ng aktor,
"Most definitely. I want what my parents have. They’ve been married close to 50 years, you know, ups and downs. But at the end of the day, they are still together. They love each other very, very much. And I see that everyday. So I want that.”
Sa isang video rin na inupload ng MEGA, sinabi ni Derek na, 'You will see me married one day. You will. I know.'
Sa IG account ng aktor ay ibinahagi din niya ang isang masayang sandali kasama si Elias at Ellen habang nakahiga sila sa kama at nag-uusap. Pinost din ito ni Ellen sa kanyang IG story na may caption na "My boys" sabay tag kay Derek.
