Beware! New modus operandi targeting Grab/Uber drivers

A concern netizen, Carla Morena posted on her Facebook acoount addressing those Grab and Uber users about the new Modus Operandi targeting Grab and Uber drivers.
Carla shared the incident that was experienced last Monday, by the driver she booked.
Their Modus Operandi is, they will pretend to be a passenger to book a ride and while the car is moving, they will declare a hijack asking the poor driver to step out, for them to take the car, the money and if fortunate, the gadgets.

The incident was reported immediately but unfortunately, they failed to trace the culprits because of the fake account they used.

Carla is asking for the Grab and Uber riders, if it’s not too much to ask, to secure their valid IDs, as a help to those Grab and Uber drivers working for extra income.

“Dear Grab and Uber users,

“There’s a new MO targeting  Grab/Uber drivers, and possibly, riders.

“My driver informed me of an incident last Monday, Oct 16. Two passengers booked a ride (with a different driver) in Cubao going to Otis. The pair declared a hijack by Nagtahan, and asked the driver to step out–taking the car, his earnings and his gadgets.

“Upon reporting the incident, it was found out that the pair has set up a fake account and are now untraceable.

“Due to this incident, some Grab and Uber drivers are now asking riders if it’s possible to present valid IDs before the ride. They also foresee that these culprits may target Uber Pool and Grab Share users to “hit two birds”.

“Guys, Grab and Uber drivers work decently to provide us with a convenient, comfortable and safe mode of transportation. Let’s look out for them as well.

“As for the ride sharing platforms, I guess it’s time to update their product design to ensure that the identification of both riders and drivers are valid.
