A 57-year old Archdiocese in Pampanga was once stained with immorality and worldly consummation all because of a young Catholic Priest who got himself into trouble of an entangled love affair.
Not only did the Priest had forsaken his “vow of celibacy”, the woman with whom he had a relationship with, is MARRIED!
The scandal only surfaced when a married man, whose identity remained confidential, filed a case against his wife and the young Fr. Jeffrey Louie Maghirang for Alleged Adultery and Unjust Vexation at the Angeles City Prosecutor’s Office.
He was known to be an Altar Boy in his younger years.
Rumor has it that the couple were married in 2009 until Maghirang came and home-wrecked a once was a happy family.
Immediately after receiving the complainant’s plea, Archbishop Paciano Aniceto placed Fr. Maghirang under indefinite suspension, according to Fr. Larry Sarmiento, Archdiocese’s Conciliation and Arbitration Committee, with the latter under ‘discernment period’, could not be reached for comments.
To support his case, the man even showed an SMS message to Auxiliary Bishop Pablo Virgilio, allegedly from Maghirang to his now ex-wife that reads: “Sige na babes, sleep na tayo, gagawa pa ko ng homily (Let’s sleep babes, I still have a homily to make).”
The excerpt of the complaint filed against Maghirang suggested that he should instead be dismissed from the service as further Priesthood in the community would likely destroy the image of the Catholic church and its relationship from its devoted followers.
This was the first known case in the Archdiocese that reached the court and though there may have been similar cases of Priests who even practice homosexuality, habitual gambling, child abuse, and proliferation of church funds, Aniceto was known to have always pardoned their transgressions.
