This goes to all OFWs who give Pasalubong to their relatives but don’t get any appreciation in return.

As we all know, life here in the Philippines is hard. That’s why many Filipinos would rather choose to work abroad to give their family a better life and buy the things that their loved ones want just to make them happy, in exchange of being alone and desolated from their loved ones, which is the greatest sacrifice that Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) must endure.
But what breaks their heart the most is when hearing complaints on their pasalubong instead of appreciation.
Just like what happened to this OFW.He expressed his disappointment on Filipino mind setting about OFW, through Facebook post.

He shared his disappointment to people who think that life in abroad is easy, specially those who can’t appreciate their (OFW) pasalubong but instead, would ask for more or anything else. And what breaks their heart the most is when they will still have something to say against them after all the the thing they did and sacrificed.

“Minsan, nakakadala talagang magbigay ng pasalubong kapag nagbabalik-bayan ka, bigyan mo man sila o hindi, meron at meron silang masasabi sa’yo, na kesyo “ito lang”, “nagbigay ka pa”, “kuripot naman”, “‘yan ba ‘yung abroad?”,tatlong-taon sa abroad heto na ‘yun?”.  He said.

He also reiterated the Filipino mindset about OFWs wherein in fact, OFWs chose to be away from their family because they want to give them a better life and not to buy “pasalubong” for their relatives and won’t get any appreciation after all.

“Una po sa lahat, hindi po nagbabalik-bayan ang isang OFW para bigyan o pasalubungan kayong lahat, walang obligasyon ang isang OFW na bigyan kayo ng mga tsokolate, sabon, pabango at kung anu-ano pa! umuuwi ang isang OFW hindi para magregalo, mamigay o magpamudmod ng kung ano. kundi, umuuwi sila para pansamantalang makapagpahinga, makapaglibang at makasama ang kani-kanilang pamilya’t mahal sa buhay. “ he said.

The sacrifice that OFWs are doing is not as easy as ABC, because they endure loneliness and and become desolated away from their loved ones for more than a year. Appreciation and contentment on what they can give is enough for them to feel happy rather than hearing complaints about the “pasalubong” they gave.

Sana, subukan n’yo ‘hong mag-abroad, para po maranasan n’yo rin ang mga sakripisyo namin, ‘yung mga pagtitipid, pangungulila at kalungkutang nararanasan dito at ng mga kapwa-OFW namin sa buong mundo. Matuto po sana kayong magpasalamat o makuntento, dahil kahit papaano’y naabutan at naalala kayo nung tao.” He said.
